TOUGH GUY INC SUCCESSFULLY DEFENDS TRP TAG TEAM TITLES
Tough Guy Inc achieved a legit goal for the first time in their near decade as a tag team this past Friday night at Top Rope Pro’s Spindle City Rumble.
They not only successfully defended their Top Rope Pro Tag Team Championships, but for the first time EVER as a tandem, they’ve successfully made a championship defense.
Now, before we go and say Brutal Bob Evans and Tough Tim Hughes had a jinx as it came to retaining their belts, there have been some serious complications regarding this intricate situation.
On February 29, 2020, in Salina, KS, Tough Guy Inc shocked XWE Wrestling fans and won a Fatal Four Way tag team contest, defeating Aaron Helms and Bubba Sutton of the American Way, the Knockout Kings of Pierce Price and Handgun Dan, and XWE Tag Team Champions the ParaRockstars, to win the belts. The plan was for Bob and Tim to continue to make pilgrimages to Kansas to be fighting champions for the promotion.
Two weeks later, the world changed.
With the COVID-19 worldwide pandemic shutting down activities for the foreseeable future, XWE would not be running any shows. When you aren’t running events, there are no title defenses to be made, and Tough Guy Inc were stripped of the belts. The workhorses were unable to make a single title defense.
On November 13, 2021, in Jonquiere, Quebec, Canada, for Jonquiere Championship Wrestling, Bob and Tim won a Final Four Way encounter at Tag Team Fury, defeating L'Équipe Du Siecle, Kevin Madness & Little Jay, and Exess & Exess Jr to win the vacant JCW Tag Team Championships. It was JCW’s second show back after a long layoff due to the pandemic. The plans were, once again, for Tough Guy Inc to consistently travel to Quebec to be fighting champions and defend their belts with honor.
Then, another variant of COVID-19 struck.
When Omicron made its spread around the world in rapid fashion, Canada felt the need to close their borders and avoid the possibility of bringing it into their country. Months passed before they opened up again, and by the time they did, Tough Guy Inc, in their first defense, lost the belts in a three-way ladder match to L'Equipe Du Siecle at Super Gala St-Ambroise 2022 in St-Ambroise, Quebec, Canada on May 7, 2022.
The boys were getting the screws put to them by a situation completely out of their hands.
However, on December 27, Brutal Bob and Tough Tim finally put that curse out of their heads. In front of a packed house at the PAL Hall in Fall River, MA, Tough Guy Inc defeated a very game Diego Alvarez & Lover Boy Lex Lozano - Guapo Suave - to retain their Top Rope Pro Tag Team Championships.
My sources on the independent wrestling pipeline state that Bob and Tim are overjoyed that they finally “reversed the curse” and were able to make a proper defense of their titles. With that out of the way, can Tough Guy Inc prosper and continue their journey to be fighting champions?
My bet is on Yes.
