OMOS and Jack Morris - NEW GHC Tag Team Champions

Almost four years ago, I wrote an “Open Letter: Omos Is The Future” after watching the big man perform in his first match at WrestleMania in Dallas, TX in 2021, where he and “the Phenomenal” AJ Styles won the RAW Tag Team Titles from the New Day.

Over the next few years, Omos has been like a myth, appearing in big moments inside WWE, most notably against “the All Mighty” Bobby Lashley at WrestleMania 38 and BROCK LESNAR at WrestleMania 39. The protection of the big man to develop into a modern day Andre the Giant style attraction was obvious.

However, over the past year plus, with the exception of the 2024 Royal Rumble, Omos has been relatively quiet in WWE. Also, as MVP left the promotion in 2024, he was no longer with a manager.

What was there for “the Colossus” to do? What was his next direction?

GO TO JAPAN.

—--

Several days before Pro Wrestling NOAH’s The New Year 2025 event from the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo, Japan, NOAH leaked, either accidentally or on purpose, depending on who you ask, a photo announcing that Omos would be teaming with Jack Morris as a part of TEAM 2000 X against the GHC Heavyweight Tag Team Champions of legendary performers Takashi Sugiura & Naomichi Marufuji.

On December 28, 2024, NOAH went legit with their announcement, bringing in the 7 '4 monster into a press conference, discussing their upcoming card. Almost immediately, “the Colossus” picked up the host of the presser, standing at the podium, and lifting her all the way in the air like a child raising his toy.

It quickly came to be that YOSHITATSU, a representative of TEAM 2000 X, would act as Omos's translator. Omos would also become an official member of the faction, and promised that dominance was coming.

Almost immediately, you could feel the vibe. Pro Wrestling NOAH was treating Omos as an absolute spectacle and a unique one-of-a-kind individual. Later in the day, NOAH’s social media pages were posting clips of him walking around Tokyo. It was absolutely incredible.

On New Year’s Day 2025, we all finally bared witness to what Omos could do outside of a WWE setting alongside his new tag team partner.

For starters, Jack Morris is an legit diamond-in-the-rough. A former striker for the Scottish soccer team Cowdenbeath F.C., Morris turned into a professional wrestler in 2017, performing for countless independent promotions throughout the United Kingdom. Catching a huge break in 2019 as a member of Mark Dallas’s Insane Championship Wrestling, he formed a successful tag team with Scottish veteran Dickie Divers as the Nine9, holding the ICW World Tag Team Championships for eight months in 2021.

In the Summer of 2022, Morris entered the prestigious N-1 Victory tournament, and picked up some shocking wins, including over former GHC Heavyweight Champion Kaito Kiyomiya, six-time GHC Heavyweight Tag Team Champion Masa Kitamiya, and young Kinya Okada. Although he did not win his block, Morris’s name quickly went on the radar of NOAH fans. At Star Navigation 2022 on December 19, 2022, Morris upset NOAH legend Katsuhiko Nakajima.

By January 2023, Morris, alongside Anthony Greene and Jake Lee, formed the Good Looking Guys faction and ran roughshod over NOAH all year long. In March, Lee won the GHC Heavyweight Title, while Morris and Greene became Heavyweight Tag Team title holders in September, defeating Saxon Huxley and Timothy Thatcher. To top it off, on October 28, 2023 in Fukuoka, Japan, Morris defeated GHC National Champion El Hijo de Dr. Wagner, Jr to win the title and becoming one of the rare men in NOAH history to hold two championships at once.

By the Summer of 2024, the GLG fell apart. After announcing that the Good Looking Guys would be disbanding at their Navigation event on July 13, 2024. After losing alongside Greene and LJ Cleary to Lee, Yo-Hey, and Tadasuke in their final match as a group, Lee shocked the members and NOAH fans by accepting an invite into New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Bullet Club War Dogs faction and turning on Morris as he walked out the door.

Morris wouldn’t be alone for long. In October, after multiple matches where his former stablemates Cleary and Greene were attacked by a masked man with Morris involved, it was found out that former GHC Jr. Heavyweight Champion Daga and YOSHITATSU, the man under the mask, would be forming TEAM 2000 X with Morris. The Scottish prodigy was on the rise.

Morris and Omos would be facing off Marufuji and Sugiura, two all-time NOAH legends. Marufuji is a phenom in Japan and a cult icon in America, due to his legendary work with Ring of Honor in the mid-2000s. Sugiura is also a legend, developed in the NOAH system and holding every championship imaginable. Combined, the men have held 37 CHAMPIONSHIPS within their twenty-five year career for NOAH.

Mind you, Marufuji and Sugiura were the tandem to beat Morris and Greene back in July 2024 to win the belts. Could Omos be the X-Factor and help Morris regain the Tag Team gold in his debut match for NOAH?

You damn right.

Morris and Omos instantly reminded me of the AJ and Omos tandem in 2021. The flash and flare of the Scottish native went move-for-move with the two NOAH icons. However, once Omos entered the ring, the mood and vibe changed. “The Colossus” used his power and strength to overwhelm both men at any given opportunity. It was impressive.

Once Omos delivered the Tree Slam to Marufuji in the center of the ring, it was all she wrote. Jack Morris and Omos were the NEW GHC Heavyweight Tag Team Champions!

After the match, Omos was quoted in a post match presser, as well as on Instagram, by calling himself bigger than a Super Heavyweight - he was a SUPER MEGA WEIGHT!

Can anyone stop this new tandem of Omos and Jack Morris? Does NOAH have its own dominant monster? Needless to say, TEAM 2000 X will be THE faction to watch in wrestling throughout 2025.

“The Colossus” Omos: the Super Mega Weight of the next generation of professional wrestling.
