BANKIE'S HOT TAKE #85 - Carter Wins 2nd Super 8 Tournament; Joins Exclusive List
Darius Carter has made ECWA Super 8 history.
For only the second time in the history of the 28 years of the Super 8 Tournament, founded by legendary promoter Jim Kettner, one man has gone the distance and won the whole thing TWICE.
The current ECWA Heavyweight Champion and 2022 Super 8 Winner Carter, who many predicted would be an odds-on favorite, ran the gamut, defeating Avery Jax, Steve Pena, and Curt Robinson to become the 2024 Super 8 Champion.
After the final match, during Carter’s trophy ceremony, “Wrestling’s Richest Prize” and 2023 Super 8 Champion Joey Ace got into a fight in the ring that needed to be witnessed. Both men, who have had animosity building for quite some time, let the cup flow over with anger and frustration. ECWA is on a figurative collision course with Carter and “the Five Star Stud”.
For Carter, he joins a very exclusive list, joining independent wrestling legend “the Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels as the only two-time winner of the Super 8 Tournament. Daniels won it in 2000 and 2004.
On a personal note, I have been a huge fan of Darius Carter since Day 1. Even though Carter just made history with this victory, the man still has a massive underrated label on his back, for reasons I cannot explain. The King of The Tri-State still hasn’t received the respect he truly deserved.
Could winning the ECWA Super 8 Tournament for a second time finally put him over the hump? In this writer’s perspective, I sure hope so.
