BANKIE'S HOT TAKE #28 - Bet On Yourself. Always.
Today, I made one of the biggest steps in my life.
I took a chance on something new. In due time, you will know what it is. But it might very well be the next chapter/stage of my life. I’m betting on myself.
And that is where this Hot Take truly begins to take shape.
Bet On Yourself. Always.

Right before the end of 2022, I had a crossroads in my life. I wanted to expand myself more with my writing and character development, but I was procrastinating more than I’d like to admit.
Meanwhile, Hardway HQ began going through a stage of upheaval in the middle of last year. Jon Harder’s personal life began to change in a multitude of ways. More job responsibilities, being a married man, and handling major life changes gave way to him stepping aside a lot.
Although Reggie Reg had really stepped into her own as the podcast queen of HQ (you can keep that, Reg!), other content was needed for the website.
I sat down and began to contemplate. What should I do? Do I go all in and take a risk, especially when the world of blogging is on the downswing? Or do I take a chance and see where life takes me? What is the worst that could happen? NOTHING?
That fear went away, and by January 1, 2023, I began to bet on myself.
What a wild ride.

Over the past few months, I have been able to bring eyes to Hardway HQ with my reviews and blogs. I have begun to write a bi-monthly article to Legends On Deck, while starting to help out with American X Wrestling out of Hamburg, PA. I’ve even found a chance to start working on some YouTube content that I’ve had a vision of doing.
Bankie Bruce has been doing OK.
The most exciting part: I’ve been having some serious fun. I do not think I’ve enjoyed myself this much in a long time. I’m in the beginning stages of trying anything and everything, and it’s working.
The part I am trying to make is this: you have to take risks. Even if it scares you, even if it drives you bonkers, you have to try it. Even if you fail, at least you tried. As Wayne Gretzky said, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” As overused and cliched it sounds, it’s true. You can’t be afraid to take a shot. Failure builds character and drives you to be better. “You have to be willing to take the hits,” Rocky Balboa said in Rocky 6.
Two cliched quotes in one paragraph. Good grief.
Regardless, I’m living my life for me now. And, as I tell everyone, when it comes to life, there’s only one thing to do:
“Bet On Yourself. ALWAYS.”
