BANKIE'S HOT TAKE #108 - LATIMER TRIES TO GO 3 FOR 3 THIS WEEKEND IN NWA TITLE DEFENSES

Thom Latimer has been a fighting World’s Heavyweight Champion for the National Wrestling Alliance ever since winning the title on an edition of POWERRR on August 31, 2024 at the ECW Arena from the legendary EC3.

Now, Billy Corgan’s NWA will be doing a three-show weekend tour in the Metropolitan area, and the gritty bruiser Latimer will be defending the “10 Pounds of Gold” all three nights.

Thanks to representatives of PROject Codename: Wrestling and Championship Entertainment Productions, three wildly diverse challengers will be guaranteed an opportunity at the gold.

Tomorrow night, February 28, at the Factory in Freeport, Long Island, NY, Joe Ocasio will get the first crack at ending Latimer’s reign. “The Long Island Landmine” recently has come back from a very enriching and successful tour of Italy, including being one of the rare men to actually hold “the Living Legend” Bruno Sammartino’s original WWWF Championship belt in the flesh. For Latimer, he is going to face an uber-intense and very game Ocasio, who will have a very distinct home-field advantage.

Whoever wins the match between Latimer and Ocasio will defend the NWA World’s Heavyweight Championship against Brian Idol on Saturday Night, March 1. Idol has been chasing Latimer and the 10 Pounds of Gold for quite some time, including two great matches in the Fall of 2024 on NWA programming.. At the Greenport American Legion in Greenport, NY, Latimer’s head will be on a swivel, and Idol’s looking for gold..

At the Morgan Jr Arena in Wallington, NJ on Sunday afternoon, March 2, it is scheduled to be a fatal-four-way match for the title between Latimer, Ocasio, the 6’6 “Public Enemy #1” TJ Marconi, and the technically sound “Fancy” Ryan Clancy.

It could get very complicated. If Idol wins the NWA World’s Heavyweight Title on March 1, he will replace Latimer in the match-up. However, if Ocasio wins the belt on Friday, he will be DEFENDING, not vying for, the championship. As of now, “the Long Island Landmine” will be in a ladder match against CEP Heavyweight Champion Donnie Dixon on Saturday, but if he is in possession of the World’s Heavyweight Title, there will be a major discussion between NWA and CEP management regarding this match.

“Public Enemy #1” will tell his story in a triple threat match against fellow monster Rex Lawless and “Dr. Sleep” Anthony Gangone on the 1st, and will also be in attendance on Friday night as well. The wild card in this whole equation will be Mr. Clancy, as he will be watching like a hawk the happenings of the NWA World Title throughout the weekend, and be as fresh as a daisy for Sunday Afternoon.

The most unlucky wrestler of the weekend will be Thom Latimer. He’s scheduled to have three very unique matches with an incredible wealth of talent. Can the grizzled Latimer channel the NWA World’s Heavyweight Champions of old and make it through the weekend as champion?

This will be a very special weekend for the NWA in the Northeast. Please do your very best to get to these shows. It’s an old school style weekend for everyone. This is pro wrestling at its finest.
